Bear/Cougar Awareness Session
The KHC put on its very first Bear/Cougar Awareness Session last night (June 25). A small group of inquisitive members attended the informative event, led by the Kamloops Conservation Office. The two hour lecture brought better awareness of how to identify animal behavior, respond with corrective action if encountering the animal on the trail, how to protect yourself if attacked and the pros and cons of bear deterrents.
The most valuable information came to us in the ‘true-life’ stories & experiences told by these officers.
All those who attended truly came away with a better understanding of the nature of these animals and how to better prepare themselves if encountering one out in the wilderness. (submitted by Michelle Dressler with our thanks)
