A steep hike up to a high cirque on the north side of Raft Mountain

  • drive to East Trophy Road (2 hours)
  • hike up to Cirque of the Tarns
  • scramble up to Raft Peak #3 (if conditions warrant)
  • lunch on top
  • return the way we came
  • article on the route – Cirque of Tarns
  • also, check Roland Neave’s book page 247 for information

Additional notes:

  • this is a longish drive so be prepared to offer the drivers $15
  • the first section of the trail goes through a wet zone so some people carry waterproof boots for just this section, leaving those boots by the side of the trail for the way back
  • the route is a steep one, but not that long
  • there may be some fresh snow up high
  • dress for the temperature and the weather
  • we will attempt to go to the top (above the cirque) only if conditions are good
  • good boots and hiking poles are recommended
  • watch for further updates as comments the day before we leave
