Description

-Peak Series event.

– A club favorite and considered to be a strenuous hike.

– The trail  is a steady climb through alpine , meadows and several small creeks. Wild flowers will grace the trail and you might even be fortunate enough to find a bush or two of wild raspberries for tasting but make sure you leave some for the bears. Snow patches have been encountered in previous year and snow ball fights will be permitted to cool down. You will also encounter a few marmots along the trail, whistling their song as we pass by.

Participants must be physically fit for this hike and must stay with the group at all times due to the remote location of this hike and the wildlife habitats. Keep in mind that this is also grizzly habitat so this is the reason that the group will remain as one unit for the entire trail. We will take many breaks along the way to ensure that all participants are able to reach the summit and for picture opportunities as the scenery along the way is beautiful in the alpine section of this hike and the view at the summit is simply breathtaking

-The very final climb to the summit to the remains of the old Dominion Fire Lookout is very steep and narrow but what a view!!!

-Bring plenty of snacks , extra water, hiking poles, mosquitoes spray,  and of course, your camera is a must!

-Please remember to bring your ten essentials and to have good hiking footwear. Leaders reserve the rights to determine registrant’s ability to undertake this event.

– Participants residing in Kamloops are to meet at 08:00 am at Auto Princess in Valleyview to arrange carpooling and depart  at 08:15 .  Please bring $15.00 if you plan to carpool for the driver.

– Caravan to Chase Petro where you will join up with participants from that location. A quick stop for a bathroom break if needed before proceeding to the trailhead.   Keep in mind that this is also grizzly habitat so this is the reason that the group will remain as one unit for the entire trail. See you soon!!

-High clearance vehicle is preferable as the last stretch of road can be rough  and is on a forestry road with recent logging activity.

– Last but not least, this hike is well worth the effort as the reward once you reach the summit will be spectacular! See you there!
