Description

Skmana Lake

The Skmana Lake recreational area lies approximately 13 km. northeast of Chase B.C. and boasts a series of cross-country ski trails and snowshoe trails that are maintained by the Skmana Ski and Snowshoe Club.  Here you will find a variable terrain that is mostly gentle, but with some moderate elevation gain/loss here and there within the quietude of its mixed forest and the circumference of its twin lakes and surrounding wetlands.

  • There is a trail use fee in effect – please bring $5.00 to deposit in the trailhead kiosk.
  • Bring lunch, water, something to sit on when we take our breaks, and dress for the weather (waterproof gaiters recommended for deep and/or wet snow conditions).
  • Some elevation gain/loss depending on the route taken.
  • In optimal weather/snow conditions, this event and the route we take is generally “moderate” insofar as difficulty.  However, if we find ourselves traversing in wet/heavy snow and/or deep snow conditions that additionally requires breaking trail, the rating for this event will resemble one which is “harder”.
  • Event is dependent on weather conditions.  Comments will appear should the weather be unseasonably cold or wet, road conditions hazardous, and/or the snow conditions unfavorable.
  • Kamloops participants to meet at the Valleyview Arena (north end) at 9:00 to coordinate carpooling under the direction of Sam Chow.  Contribution towards travel costs to be set by the driver.
  • Leaders T(Ed) and Lois will meet the participants at the Skmana Lake parking area as we will be traveling via the access road nearest to our location here on the North Shuswap.
