Description

Come join us on a hot summer day for a two hikes in the Shuswap. As an added bonus, we will first arrive at the majestic Margaret Falls parking lot and proceed through a closed canyon with high vertical walls that allow only limited sunlight…but the sights are beautiful to say the least. You will walk through colossal trees and thick moss to a wooden platform soaked by the constant spray of the falls. Have your camera ready!

– Next, we will proceed to hike the Upper Canyon Loop of Margaret Falls, this hike is about 5 k round trip with a steady climb with a spectacular view of Shuswap lake within a few minutes. We will stop for lunch by the creek, then proceed down the remainder of the trail. Stay with the group…as there are several viewpoint to access along the way that are only known by frequent visitors. Some of these viewpoints must be carefully navigated as they are on the edges above the creek.

– Last, but not least, we will return to our vehicles and drive just a few minutes to the Sunnybrae parking lot on our way back home and take the trail opposite the parking lot to undertake a steep climb that leads us to the summit of the bluffs- well worth the effort as the view is amazing! Total round trip is 4 k.

– Prior to returning to our vehicles in the parking lot… what is the greatest thing to do on a hot summer day after a long steep climb? Go for a swim if you are so inclined in the cold refreshing Shuswap Lake . If you do indeed go for a swim, make sure you have discussed this with the participants whom you are carpooling with.

-Participants are to arrange carpooling at the meet up location at 09:00 am sharp, leaving shortly after.

-The Kamloops group will stop at the Chase Petro Canada at around 09:40 to meet the Chase group and we will caravan to the trailhead from there. We should reach our destination by 10:00 am.

-Remember to bring your lunch, plenty of water, mosquito repellent and of course, your camera is a must for this fun packed series of events.

-If your are carpooling, please provide $10.00 for fuel to the driver.
