Description
A hike from Lac du Bois to the west side bluffs of Opax Mountain (overlooking Tranquille Canyon) and back
- route – Lac du Bois > north side into Hanging Valley > up the old track onto the tops of the lava cliffs >west to the lookouts
- the section on top of the mountain is not at all obvious so hikers have to stay with the leader; Opax is a good place to get lost so being able to keep up with the group is very important
- lunch at the lookout
- a 15km return hike so adequate fitness is required
- a scenic route
- dress for the conditions; with a longer hike and possible warm conditions, play attention to the Ten Essentials
