Description

A Wednesday Winter Walk in the Woods on Wheeler Mountain – wwwww@Jan.20

  • depending on conditions, a 4.0 hrs+ snowshoe on Wheeler Mountain is planned, starting from Lac du Bois
  • this is not a novice route; experience and fitness requirements apply; the route will take fitness, strength, and endurance
  • we will be breaking trail for the middle third of the route
  • we will snowshoe together and follow the same route (parallel tracks okay); “doing your own thing” increases my stress level and also fragments the group so please don’t join us for this event if this is your style
  • bring enough gear and a headlamp, just in case
  • article – Wheeler Winter
  • a Peaks Series event Δ

wwwws

  • final locations will be dependent on snow conditions and will be chosen 7-10 days out from the date
  • Plan B routes will be chosen if it snows heavily or rains
  • we will try to avoid cancellations, but will comment to the event if heavy rains or very cold weather is predicted
  • early season wwwws will likely be walks on the snow; once the snow depth is over 9″, snowshoe events can start
  • most wwwws will take place at 3000 feet elevation and higher
  • all wwww events will start at 10:00 at a meetup spot tbd – watch the listingΔ
  • participants must be adequately fit to hike on the snow or snowshoe for 2.5-3.5 hours
  • all outings will be in the forest and not on pay-for-use trails
  • dress for the conditions
  • dog friendly, but if the snow is deep or the temperature is very cold, please choose wisely
  • Good snowshoes, gaiters, and poles are recommended
  • bring something to sit on for our lunch break
  • there will be a weekly event from Dec. 16 through Feb. 24
  • more information provided closer to the date
