KHChirps
Some short July news items:
- July and August events include some summit hikes; leaders schedule these routes which are only open during the summer months
- A few of these summit hikes are difficult routes that challenge hikers with steep routes, difficult footing, long/challenging routes, and potentially hot conditions; they are not for everyone
- Anyone who joins a difficult hike may find themselves an hour behind half way up and more than two hours behind by the end; this leaves some difficult choices for leaders and other group members and the potential for safety concerns
- The most difficult hikes are often “tuned” to the fittest hikers; read the listings carefully to make sure you have the right one for you.
- We have enough leaders now to offer two groups on some of our scheduled events; this happened for Tod Toonie Day (a fast group and a slower group) and can be done more often if we can get a second leader who comes forward to lead another group
- Our website now has a GPS Tracks Library available to logged in members. The tracks are in .gpx format, the most commonly used file type for GPS. Click the download button to save the file to your computer then you can view it on your computer or upload it to your GPS. Watch for a seminar on using tracks to be offered this year.
- Our thanks to Anthony Stahn (webmaster) for setting up the library and to Doug Smith for providing tracks. The library will grow over time.
- Leaders can now add track files to their event listings (example) too for members’ use.
