KHChirps
Some mid-October news items:
- Membership renewals are coming in steadily and will continue through the fall.
- New memberships will start November 1st. The links to Membership Forms, payments, and waivers will be activated at that time.
- KHC is moving to a policy of Single Memberships only for the upcoming year. The Family Membership has been removed and couples memberships already completed will be converted to two Single Memberships (honoring the $55 rate).
- KHC’s policy on including minors is found on the Minors page.
- Our thanks to Dave Schmidt, Frith Powell, Wendy Kineshanko, and Anthony Stahn for their volunteer work on memberships.
- Recent wildlife encounters have reminded us of why we have our Dogs Policy. A reminder to members who are dog owners that dogs are not permitted to chase wildlife. The opposite issue also can happen. We had a cougar stalk one of our dogs during a hike this week and it got within 10 feet. The dog was with the group at the time and was safer because of that; he was on leash for the remainder of the hike.
- Dog owners must bring a leash and ensure their pets are under control for the event. Hike Leaders choose whether dogs are permitted on their specific events, but also can stipulate restrictions on hikes, as needed.
- Fall events continue to be posted by Hike Leaders. Watch for them in the schedule.
- The Peaks Series is complete and forms will be available in November for participants.
- January events will not be activated for registration until new memberships are completed in December. This allows renewing members and new members an equal chance to book into events.
- KHC did a joint hike with Vernon Outdoor Club this week and both groups enjoyed the hike to the Shorts Creek Rim. VOC has 300 members and an active schedule (link to VOC site).
- Two events upcoming are the Fall Potluck and the Backcountry Navigation Workshop. Details are found in the event listing.
- Planning for 2016 Camps and Backpacks has begun. See the listings on the right sidebar for more information.
- Winter events will be posted late fall. See you on the trails.
