Description

Downton Creek Peak 8700 (Statimcets Peak) is located 25 km south of Lillooet on Duffy Lake Road.

From the trailhead, we will hike a good trail through an old cut block for about 40 minutes before emerging into an open meadow.  From here, the rest of the hike is all in the open.  The ascent of the peak itself is up a long scree slope, so poles and good boots will be required.  No scrambling on this one, just a long hike up the slope.

The overall elevation gain will be 850 m.

The Downton Creek Basin is beautiful and from the summit, the Joffre Peaks and Wedge Mountain can be seen.

This is one of Matt Gunn`s favorite hikes in southwest BC.

We will leave early and should be on the trail by 11:00 am.  I have allowed 6 hours fore the hike, although we may wish to spend longer on the peak or one of the lakes in the basin.  Return to Kamloops at 8:00pm could be expected.

The leader will be continuing on the Pemberton to meet up with Garibaldi Park crew.
