Description

~~Trail Description: The trail contours east around the south slopes of the mountain, climbing quickly up into alpine. It continues to follow the obvious line toward the summit. The final climb to the remains of the old Dominion Fire Lookout is steep and narrow. Route finding increases with lingering snow. Steep cliffs at the summit, snow may be encountered along the trail. The view at the summit is breathtaking and well worth the effort! Participants must be physically fit for this hike and must stay with the group at all times due to the remote location of this hike and the wildlife habitats. We will take many breaks along the way to ensure that all participants are able to reach the summit and for picture opportunities as the scenery is beautiful in the alpine section of this hike and the view at the summit is breathtaking Bring plenty of snacks / water and of course, a camera is a must! Participants residing in Kamloops are to meet at 08:00 am at Auto Princess in Valleyview to arrange carpooling and depart  at 08:15 .  Please bring $15.00 if you plan to carpool for the driver. High clearance vehicle is preferable as the last stretch of road can be rough since it is a foresty road. Caravan to Chase petro where you will join up with participants from that location. A quick stop for a bathroom break if needed before proceeding to the trailhead. This is a club favorite hike for this time of the year, you may even encounter a few marmots along the trail, whistling their song! Keep in mind that this is also grizzly habitat so this is the reason that the group will remain as one unit for the entire trail. See you soon!!
