Description
A harder hike to the top of Estekwalan Mountain then a more challenging descent on loose, steep slopes
- meet at 8:00 at Valleyview Arena (See the Meet Up Spots page for more info) to convoy
- drive to Falkland, then up the mountain road to the trailhead (high clearance)
- since we are not organizing carpooling, you need to be able to drive up the road or to arrange your own ride
- hike to the upper rim of the mountain (steep with some minor scrambling)
- traverse over the mountain to the south end
- a lunch beak along the way
- descend down the south steep slopes; there are some fixed ropes to assist, (but it is not downclimbing; its just steep and loose)
- finish the loop with a double track walk back to the vehicles
- article on Estewalan Mountain
- part of the Summer Summit Series
- mosquito season
- the route is not obvious so stay with the leader
- if the forecast is not good, the event will be rescheduled
- to be opened for registration on July 9th, pending a favorable forecast
- it will be a small group hike because of social distancing, difficulty of the route, and rough road access
- John has volunteered as co-leader so we can open more spaces
