Description
Jonas Pass / Poboktan Pass / Brazeau Lake Backpack Trip
This will be a 5-day loop backpack trip. The “grand tour” of the southern ranges, this circuit includes one of the park’s largest backcountry lakes, two passes and an extraordinary alpine traverse with glaciated peaks, lush wildflowers and a variety of wildlife.
Location: Jasper NP, Icefields Parkway, E and N of Icefield Centre
Round Trip: 79.3 km
Hiking Time: 5 days 4 nights
Difficulty: moderate
Aug 8th: Pre-camp of your choice
Aug 9th Day 1: the first night at Four Point (13.9 km)
Aug 10th Day 2: then to Brazeau Lake Camp (18.1 km)
Aug 11th Day 3: Poboktan Pass to the Jonas Cutoff (16.2 km)
Aug 12th Day 4: and then over Jonas Shoulder back to Four Point (18.9 km)
Aug 13th Day 5: On the last day, return to the Nigel Pass trailhead (13.9 km)
Hiking style is to allow plenty of time to smell the flowers, photograph, and enjoy the vistas. This hike is not a heads down and storm through.
