Description
A new trail from the river to the top of Mt. Dufferin
- the meet-up spot will be the trailhead on Mission Flats Road (see the map)
- the hike up is a steep one for 6 km
- we will hike up and back (3.5 hours) but if conditions are not good, we will modify the route
- a short lunch break near the top
- the trail is in development so there will be some off-trail sections up to the Sage Trail
- if conditions are slippery, bring traction devices for the boots
- poles are recommended
- we could do a through hike with a pick-up vehicle, but we will solve that problem in the last week
- dress for the conditions
- a demanding hike so fitness is an issue; we will hike at a steady pace
- the whole route – Kamloops Climb > Sage Trail > Red-Tailed Hawk > Lower Doug Daws > Big Pine > Ridge > Summit
The Friday Program:
- most Fridays there will be a lower elevation hike (not a snowshoe) right through winter into the spring (and possibly beyond)
- the concept is still in the development stage and we will refine it over the winter
- most hikes will be 1.5 to 3 hours
- Hike leaders include Gerry Hoye, Doug Smith, Dianne Smith, and possibly one more person
- hiking in the snow can be a challenge, but if hikers use good boots, gaiters, appropriate clothing, and carry traction devices, winter hiking can be very rewarding
We hiked the route on Dec. 3:
- Kamloops Hiking Club – September 5, 2021
- March 2021 KHChronicles – March 20, 2021
- February 2021 KHChronicles – February 20, 2021
