Description

A spring hike up into the Six Mile Hills

  • meet at Aberdeen Mall to carpool (60 km return with 2 km on a rough road – $5)
  • Hike for 3 hours in the hills
  • there will be a couple of fence crossings; we will observe best practices in respecting rangelands while on our hike
  • lunch at a viewpoint along the way
  • a loop route
  • some potential hazards are ticks, rattlesnakes, cactus, and bears; stick with the group to be safe
  • mostly off-trail in open rocky hills and grasslands
  • wildflowers will be out
  • a few hills to go up and down so fitness will be required
  • the return time can’t be accurately predicted so if you have an afternoon appointment, this is not the right hike for you
  • more detail to be added
  • article on the hike – Six Mile Rambles
  • a scenic route
  • more detail to be added when the event is enabled for registration

Wednesday Hikes:

  • most events are on the harder side, either with terrain, elevation, off-trail routes, or steady pacing, or all of these factors
  • because we rarely follow trails or we tackle longer climbs, it is important for the group to stay together so basic fitness is required for everyone’s safety
  • hikers are expected to be well-prepared and to be self-sufficient
  • although the club encourages hike leaders to offer more moderate hikes for all levels, almost all of the Wednesday hikes do not fit this description
  • contact the hike leader if you are unsure if this is right hike for you
