Description

Another Winter Walk in the Woods – wwww@Jan.15

  • meet at Aberdeen Mall at 10:00
  • carpool to the trailhead at Lodgepole Lake on the Chuwhels Mountain Road
  • we will do a loop to the south and west of the lake; if there are tracks we will follow them and we will probably break trail too
  • article – Chuwhels Snowshoeing
  • article – Lodgepole Loop
  • we will snowshoe together and follow the same route;  parallel tracks okay; doing your own thing increases the leader’s stress level and fragments the group so don’t join the event if this is your style
  • dress for the conditions

WWWWs:

  • all hikes or snowshoe events will be 2.0-3.5 hours
  • early season routes will be easier; later season events will be all-day routes
  • locations will be dependent on snow conditions and will be chosen 7-10 days out from the date
  • Plan B routes will be chosen if it snows heavily or rains
  • we will try to avoid cancellations, but will comment to the event if heavy rains or very cold weather is predicted
  • most wwwws will take place at 3000 feet elevation and higher
  • all wwww events will start at 10:00 at a meetup spot tbd – watch the listing
  • participants must be adequately fit to hike on the snow or snowshoe for 2-3+ hours
  • all outings will be in the forest and not on pay-for-use trails
  • dress for the conditions
  • dog friendly, but if the snow is deep or the temperature is very cold, please choose wisely
  • Good snowshoes, gaiters, and poles are recommended
  • bring a bag for your snowshoes (no damage to vehicle interiors)
  • bring something to sit on for our lunch break
