Description
A loop route on Tuktakamin Mountain above Falkland.
- meet early at Valleyview Arena to carpool ($10); parked cars should be on the frontage road
- drive to Westwold, then a healthy drive up backroads to the trailhead
- a 12 km loop involving some scrambling, some route-finding, and some ridge hiking
- info on the route – Tuktakamin
- good boots and poles recommended
- mosquito season so take measures, as required
- some fitness demands
- dress for the conditions
- a Plan B hike will be used if weather is marginal
- lunch along the route
- with the drive, the roughness of the trail, etc. this hike will take all day
Driving Directions:
“10 km west of Falkland on Hwy 97 turn left/south onto Old Pinaus Lake Rd, a deactivated logging road. After climbing approx. 4km turn left/east towards Tuktakamin Mtn. and follow signs to the trailhead partway up the maintenance road on the left. The maintenance road can be driven to the top of the mountain and its lookout. An alternate route to the trailhead is 13.4 km west of Falkland on Hwy 97 turn left/south onto Ingram Creek Forest Service Road. Drive 6.5km on this active logging road, then left onto Will Lake Forest Service Road, following signs to the trailhead.”

Although the weather is “iffy”, let’s stick with the plan to meet at 10:00. If we decide its too rainy, we can hike right from the arena through the silt cliffs area. I can show the group a different route. Hopefully, though, we can do the Tuk Trail. Watch for an update if the forecast changes.
The weather forecast is much improved. The hike is shorter than listed too so it all should be a good day.
