Join leader Lois Hunter in this proposed new event for the months of July and August only and offered in summer heaven – aka: the Shuswap Lakes district.

At the moment, I am proposing to offer this special event for the dates of: July 25th, August 8th, and August 22nd as these are about the only days I can fit into my busy summer schedule and I have to take in mind too, the fact that due to unusually high-water conditions, there likely won’t be any *beach* to speak of until at least the latter part of July.

  • Meet at the designated area in Kamloops at 7:30 and make your way to the Petro Can station in Chase.  Driving time is approx. 45 mins given summer traffic conditions.  I will meet you there and together we’ll carry on to the yoga studio in Sorrento where we’ll arrive in time to fill out the standard studio waiver, pay our admittance fee, and get our yoga gear set up.  *It is advisable to come dressed and ready for your yoga class.
  • We are attending the 9:00 to 10:15 yoga class (Hatha Fundamentals) at the Breathe Yoga Studio in Sorrento under the guidance of  studio owner and yoga teacher extraordinaire – Reanna Costa.  Cost of the class is $15.  I am a regular student at this studio and am presently half-way through my teacher training under Reanna’s careful guidance and instruction.  I guarantee you will not be disappointed with this class!  Mats, bolsters, and blocks are provided at the studio and there are washrooms there for you to change into your running gear should you wish to do so.  This class is suitable for students of all levels.
  • We will then make our way to the beautiful nearby Roderick Haig-Brown Provincial Park to begin our gentle warm up before hitting the soft earthen trails for a light jog/power walk in the cool shade of the mixed forest and alongside one of the world’s most ecologically renown rivers – The Adams.  Estimated jogging distance will be 2 to 5 km. and will be adjusted according to the abilities of the majority of the participants.  We are very fortunate to have KHC members Camilla Dahl join us on this event in the capacity of our Co-Leader.  Camilla is an avid experienced jogger and I’m sure she’ll be happy to lend us some well-heeled advice in addition to being available to accompany those joggers who wish to move at a faster pace whilst I stay back with the slower ones such as myself.
  • The remainder of the distance ( 5 km. approx) will be at a steady and purposeful walk as we make our way up to the exciting Adams River gorge where we may be lucky enough to spot some whitewater kayakers and/or river-rafters shooting the class 3 rapids.  We’ll stop here on the grassy bluffs for a light lunch before heading back to the parking lot.  It is advisable to carry a few basic items in a fanny or streamlined daypack for the jogging portion of this event (water, bug dope, sunscreen), the remainder of items listed under “essentials” we can pick up at the trailhead that leads up to the gorge (I’ll arrange to have a vehicle dropped off there with our hiking and swimming gear stored inside and ready to pick up).  *Add to the list of “essentials” your beach towel, swimsuit, and a pair of good fitting running shoes.
  • Being a resident of the Shuswap for over 30 years, I know of a couple of lovely, relatively quiet, sandy beaches in the area and one of the best is located within Roderick Haig-Brown Park itself.  Weather permitting, after our light jog we’ll trade in our jogging attire for our swimsuits and have a lovely dip in the lake and/or…if it’s really hot out – a jump in the crystal-clear water of the Adams!
  • Wanna shed your wet clothes and tidy-up before heading home?  No problem.  I live within 5 mins. of the gates to the park and we can come back to my place to change into some dry clothes and have some light refreshments before heading back to the big city.
  • **as an added note** – I am returning to jogging after a 20 year hiatus and I’m LOVING it!!   But….I’m taking it slow and steady with special attention to my aging joints.  If you’re a jogging newbie or a “Wanna-be” this is definitely for you!  It is expected however that you can jog lightly for at least a couple of city blocks without feeling maxed-out.
  • I’ll be keeping my numbers down for this event – a max. of 8 persons (so…two car loads) will be accepted.  If you’re interested, feel free to ask me any questions if they come up:-)

Namaste.
