REQUIRED ESSENTIALS:
  • Working headlamp or flashlight
  • Fire making kit (water-proof matches or lighter, fire starter or candle, waterproof container)
  • Space Blanket and/or large garbage bag
  • Nutrition - Extra food
  • Hydration - Extra water (minimum 1 litre)
  • Insulation - Extra clothing (extra layers of clothing, and, rain, wind protection, and, toque, gloves)
  • First aid kit
  • Signalling device (whistle)
OPTIONAL ITEMS:
  • Spare batteries for headlamp/flashlight
  • Navigation Aids (maps, route description, compass, GPS)
  • Communication aids (cell phone, SPOT device, two way radios)
  • Emergency shelter (bivy sack, ultra-light tarp)
  • Pocket knife or multi-tool
  • Sun protection (glasses, sunscreen, sun protection clothing, lip balm)
  • Repair kit – duct tape
  • Signalling device (mirror)

    Will registration be opened for this event again? I’m interested in going. There’s still beds available at the hostel as of this morning.

    Are we doing are own booking for the Burgess Shale hike, and payment of $55, to Parks Canada ON January 11??
