KHC Newsletter – April 9, 2017
Hike Leaders News
Our thanks to Katherine Roberts, Paul Battjes, Sam Chow, Michelle Dressler, Gerry Hoye, and Doug Smith for leading events in the last week.
- Since Hike Leaders are volunteers, the best thing we can do is to be positive and thank them after each event they lead.
- If the weather is marginal, hike leaders usually comment to the event listing in the last 24 hours so participants are asked to check for updates.
New Members
Each week we have an average of about 2 new registrations so the membership of KHC is gradually growing.
- We keep an eye on the number of spaces open each week to know if the Club is at capacity or not and so far we seem to be fine, but the Board will monitor how we are doing and we may need to close registration if members can’t find openings in events.
- Of course, anyone who waits until the last moment may not get into an event, so we measure our capacity more on how many events are full with people wanting to join about one week out.
- One of the Board’s goals this year will be to provide better active communication with new members so we will be putting together a program this spring.
Volunteer Spotlight
Kamloops Hiking Club would like to thank Dave Schmidt for his contributions to the Club over several years. Dave served on the Board of Directors for several years in the roles of Membership Director, President, and Past President. Dave was also a mentor and support for the incoming Directors/new Presidents in transition. Dave joined the club after moving from Manitoba and continues to be active as a hiker and paddler here in Kamloops.
We thank Dave all that he has done for KHC over the last 5 years and we wish him the best for the future.
