KHC Newsletter – January 28, 2018
KHChirps
- A new feature on the website is the opportunity for all members to post a meetup invitation or to respond to one. See Meetups on the Menu bar or in a widget on the right side. It is only visible to logged in members. If this proves to be a popular benefit for members, we will set up a more robust meetup system.
- The winner of the Name-the-Trail-from-the-photo contest was Greg Arvidson who correctly identified the image in last week’s newsletter of a KHC group sitting at the confluence of the Clearwater and Mahood River after having hiked to Sylvia and Goodwin Falls. Greg’s prize will be awarded at the AGM. There will be another contest in February.
- KHC is supporting a community initiative to have more river access points for paddlers. At this point there is some progress with accessing a launch spot at the Tournament Capital Ranch in Rayleigh.
- The KHC website has a number of resources for hike leaders and KHC members. We have 225 Locations pages with information on trails, trailheads, and related information. We have 994 images in our Media Library for use with events, newsletters, and media sharing. We have 867 Published Events in our archives, accessible through Annual Events pages on the website. We have 95 Track Files (so far) for use by hike leaders, available on request. We have also about 36 Help Files for hike leaders on the Hike Leaders Resource Page. We have just started our Blog Articles too, some of which will have information for leaders and members. Much of this information can only be seen by logged-in users (members), one of the benefits of being a current KHC member.
- Welcome back to returning hike leader Bob Trudeau. Thanks to Judy Karr for starting the process of going from Hike Co-leader to Hike Leader.
- Welcome also to our newest members -Tyra Ruscheinski, Diana McMillan, Barry and Joyce Bader, Sally Zryd, Rob Gobelle, Amanda Ashley, Linda Watson, Richard Boyce, Todd Smith, Heramb Vadalkar, and Dianna McMillan.
- We are currently at about 242 members. We may temporarily suspend new membership registrations at 250 until the March 4 Board of Directors meeting, at which time they will make a decision for the rest of 2018. The question to be dealt with is what is the capacity of KHC? If we see that all events are full most of the time and members can’t register for event spaces, we know we are at capacity and we should not be accepting more new memberships.
