KHC Newsletter – July 30, 2017

KHChirps
  • August is a month when many of our most active hikers (and hike leaders) are off to mountain base-camps.   There will still be a few local hikes, though, so watch the website for listings.
  • Best of luck to the leaders and participants in the various camps over the next month.
  • Wells Gray Provincial Park is open again but check air quality forecasts before going north since the Dunn Lake fire and Elephant Hill fire may cause smoky conditions.
  • New GPS tracks and maps (with downloads available) are being added to some of our trail hike locations.   See the featured trails section below.
  • Draft Events are events that are planned, but registration is not yet enabled.   When the hike leader is ready to confirm the final details, he/she enables registration and removes Draft from the event listing.   Each hike leader has a different time frame for doing this.
  • We have 19 active hike leaders.   Eleven of them are retired.   All are volunteers.
Featured Trails
KHC has been developing information on hiking trails in our area for use by hike leaders and members.   The full list of trails can be found on the Trails page.   This is a work in progress, but a few recently updated ones are featured here:

Doug Smith

Retired now, I get into the outdoors most days to hike, paddle, camp, run, snowshoe, or explore. Some of my activities involve more difficult routes, but a few are also suitable for moderately fit people who like a bit of a challenge. Since I am out several times a week, I post one (or two) event(s) each week and I invite a small group of like-minded people to join me.
