Off Season Check Up

While our members patiently wait for the seasonal  dump of snow to kick off the snowshoeing season in our area, there’s always a lull period which occurs around this time when hiking events begin to fade off.  Our club leaders start to prepare the ‘transitional shift’, so to speak, posting only a few events, due in part of waiting for what Mother Nature will bring in that week for weather.  This may be the best time to check over your gear, to notice if any of it is wearing or needs replacing.  Another good idea is to sort through your first aid kit and toss out old, damaged or expired materials and replace them with new ones.  It is never a bad idea to upgrade your gear as well,  especially when Christmas is around the corner.  There just might be something you can add to your outdoor wish list.

Searching for Photos & Articles for Our KHC Newsletter

Our weekly newsletter is always looking for interesting articles and information to submit to our readers. We welcome the submission of any articles that reflect the core activities provided by our club (hiking, backpacking, paddling, road biking, trail running, snowshoeing) or related topics to our readers.  We also are looking for more photos to be posted to our Kamloops Hiking Club Members Only Facebook page to be chosen as our featured image on the newsletter, and we encourage our members to post them on our site.   If you have any topics or articles that you wish to submit, here is the link: and thanks for your contribution!

Online Purchase of Parks Canada Pass Overwhelming

Parks Canada online service for purchasing 2017 park passes has been overwhelming since it opened on December 1.  There was such a huge surge of online purchases that the website actually crashed.  Read more about the article here: BC Parks /Online Passes

Canadian Snowbirds  Beware

Most Canadians who winter in the U.S. vehemently believe they can just live there for 6-months each year. They are dead wrong!

Michelle Dressler

Raised in Saskatchewan, I came to Kamloops in 2006. I have been avidly involved with the KHC since 2011, serving in various board member positions and as a current hike Leader. During that time I have seen this club grow from 50 to 200 plus members, which has been astonishing!

Known as a ‘seasonal hiker’, I hibernate for the winter. So in Spring, I look forward to exploring many more trails and wish sharing it with others who are like minded in our club. See you on the trails!
